Multi Cuisine Chef, Culinary consultant & Your favourite South Asian Homeboy!
Hey there, I’m Rahul Seyon aka Spiceboy, the mastermind behind Seycooks! Let me take you on a wild ride through my food-fueled journey. My earliest kitchen memories involve my mom and dad whipping up daily feasts. While Dad took the reins for dinner, Mom worked her magic on lunch before heading off to work. They taught me that cooking could be a family affair, a way to bond over good food.
Growing up, our finances were as tight as a drum, and we lived in a cozy cottage in Chennai, India. Our neighbors hailed from all corners of the globe—Rajasthan, Bengal, Burma, Kerala, and right here in Tamil Nadu. Food was the universal language that bridged our differences. In a world where expressing love was often a challenge, a plate of food could speak volumes. So, you could say my childhood was seasoned with love, food, and a pinch of multicultural mayhem!
Now, I’m not your typical student. School and I were like oil and water—we just didn’t mix. I’m a first-generation graduate who opted for self-study over the traditional college route, and that says a lot about me. I’m a lover of all things active, spending my teenage years diving into team sports and played in zonal levels – Football, kabbadi, you name it. Life’s twists and turns led me down various paths.
History was my jam in school, and it laid the foundation for my global culinary curiosity. Fast forward to 2016 when the internet introduced me to the world of Veganism through a fiery YouTube debate. I was intrigued, and I saw it as a challenge—a challenge to cut out dairy and meat from my diet. Eight months later, I proudly transformed from a meat eater to a vegetarian to mostly plant-based. This went on for a good 7 years, but I’m on a quest to learn different cuisines and cooking techniques now. Labels be damned!
In another life, I might have been a finance whiz, but then the pandemic hit, and it flipped my world upside down. I realized I needed more from life than a desk job. Enter “Herbivorein – Seycooks.” I launched a food blog to explore diverse cuisines and cultures, all while championing the positive impact of veganism on health, the environment, and our surroundings.
Creating a culinary symphony in my kitchen is both a blast and utterly exhausting. As a one-man show, I often find myself juggling research, testing, failures, successes, filming, editing, and publishing. It’s a rollercoaster, and the results can be pure magic or, well, not so magical.
In the summer of 2023, I decided to take the knife and become a formally trained chef in Goa, India. When I’m not wielding my spatula, you’ll find me hitting the gym, pounding the pavement, throwing punches to shadows [Not Crazy], tending to my garden, or capturing life’s moments through photography.
My personal goal? Run marathons across the globe, and you bet I’m checking those off my bucket list soon! As for Herbivorein, I’m here to bring you the finest flavors from around the world and unlock the delicious, multi-dimensional wonders of Indian and Asian cuisine—all in the comfort of your own kitchen.
So, welcome to my world, welcome to Herbivorein [Seycooks]. Thanks for taking the time to get to know me. Let’s embark on this food-filled adventure together, discovering new recipes and bonding over our shared love for all things edible.
Vanakkam, Vamos, and Big Love,
Spiceboy!.
